Introducing our partner: Ålandsbanken
Big banking and ambitious solutions at Ålandsbanken
About Us
At Ålandsbanken (Bank of Åland), we’ve built our identity on trust, responsibility, and a sense of community that goes back more than a century. Founded in 1919 by forward-looking farmers and sea captains, we’ve carried their “can-do” spirit into the modern world of banking.
Although we’re deeply rooted in the Åland Islands, our outlook is global. We believe that good ideas come from collaboration and openness, not hierarchy. Our culture is built on simplicity and mutual respect – no unnecessary formality, just genuine teamwork and shared ambition. Our values – Ambitious, Personal, and Responsible – guide everything we do, from customer relations to technology development.
Our Tech & Data Focus
Behind our financial services lies a strong foundation of data and analytics. Within our Business Intelligence & Data Warehouse team, we develop and manage the bank’s data warehouse and BI solutions, ensuring that data supports decision-making across the organisation.
We work with ETL processes in both SAS and Snowflake, combining technical precision with business understanding. Our teams rely on SQL and databases for day-to-day development, while Python is increasingly used to expand our analytical capabilities.
In our Quantitative Analysis team, we focus on the data that powers the bank’s credit risk models (IRB and IFRS9). We handle and test data, maintain documentation, and contribute to projects related to our data lake and reporting tools. We use R, Snowflake, and other statistical or programming tools as part of our data management and modelling work.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for people who are motivated by curiosity and precision – individuals who enjoy solving complex problems and finding patterns in data. The ideal candidate is analytical, structured, and responsible, with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
An interest in big data, data management, and business intelligence is essential, and familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or cloud-based platforms will give you a great start.
Our working languages are Swedish and English, and Finnish is an advantage. Most importantly, we value people who share our approach: being ambitious in what we aim for, personal in how we collaborate, and responsible in everything we do.
